WHAT WE DO & WHY
- Faith flowing from the source...
As a Christian congregation, we basically have the same task that Christians have always had, namely to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to make people His disciples. For those who are already believers, the congregation's mission is to encourage, equip and help people to grow in their faith and in their discipleship. The radical nature of living a life following Jesus means that every Christian constantly needs support, exhortation and encouragement from the rest of the congregation. The church of Ad Fontes is first and foremost a spiritual community where we walk and do life together.
Like the very first Christians, we have discovered that there is a special strength in the fellowship we have with one another; "They held together and met each day faithfully in the temple, and in their homes they broke bread and ate together in jubilant sincere joy." (Acts 2:46). The congregation's clearest building blocks are therefore Sunday services in the church and a fellowship of prayer in our homes during the week. We want to encourage close relationships that grow naturally between people who seek God together. Our relationships with Christian brothers and sisters are also manifested in our collaboration with other churches and organizations, working together around diaconal activities, missions and in prayer for our city and our country.
Our fellowship and Christian discipleship builds on:
-
Community: None of us lives or dies solely by himself. Community with each other is a vital necessity.
-
Sanctification: God doesn't change but we do. God wants to constantly reshape our lives so that we become more like Jesus. This is not always easy, but we want to welcome this change and have each other's support and help in the spiritual struggle.
-
Service: We believe that Jesus has died for us and that our calling now is to live completely for Him in everything we do, to serve each other and the world around us with what God has given us. The Christian life is therefore a life in the service of another, and what we have received we constantly give back to Him.
-
Giving: Adjacent to serving. Everything we have, we have borrowed from Him who called us. An attitude of giving and a habit of regularly giving of our time, gifts and assets is therefore a natural expression of our faith.
In this there are also some specific areas that we together perceived that the Holy Spirit particularly emphasized and called us to:
“A home for the homeless”
The congregation should be a home for the spiritually homeless. The congregation must also be a home for those who are guests and strangers in our country - which is manifested in the constant inflow and outflow of international friends and students in our community. Even if you are only temporarily in Lund, we want to provide the opportunity for a time of equipment, living community and blessing.
"The hearts of the fathers to the children..."
We believe that a trusting community between different generations is on God's heart (Mal.4:6).
"Faithfulness to God's Word - openness to the Spirit"
In the lost times we now live in, it is more important than ever to follow the orientation points that God has given. These are found in the Word and clarified by the Spirit, who is the helper we so desperately need. We therefore want to show respect for God's Word and honor the Spirit's presence in our community.
"Open your hearts, stretch out the tent lines"
The great mistake of the Pharisees was that they could not receive Christ because He was not like them. Thousands of years later, this tendency is if possible even clearer, everything must be profiled and polarization is widespread. We believe that God has called us to walk a different path. We want to be ready to "perceive" Jesus when He comes to us through people and expressions that are different from ourselves.
