WHO ARE WE?
The name "Ad Fontes"
Ad Fontes is a Christian congregation in Lund that was started in the spring of 1992. The congregation is independent but cooperates with the denominational community Evangeliska Frikyrkan. We see ourselves as part of the larger Christian community – locally, nationally and internationally.
The name Ad Fontes comes from a Latin expression meaning "to the sources"; one of the battle cries of the Reformation and an expression of a longing to return to the original simplicity of the Christian faith, to Jesus Christ and to the word of God. In our time, we have found that a common denominator in our community is precisely this longing and thirst for God himself. Ad Fontes is and remains a congregation of God-longing people!
Back to the source!
We want to live a simple Christian everyday life, relying on the help of the Holy Spirit, together encouraging and expressing the longing for God that draws us closer to our heavenly Father. Being a new branch on the Christian tree, where the true vine is Christ himself, means a standing call to humility which we reach for (John 15).
The orientation is therefore already in the name Ad Fontes, which marks an effort to find again what many have already found at the true source, Jesus Christ.
Everything belongs to us, we belong to Christ...
From the very beginning, Ad Fontes has had a tangible ecumenical character. Our position is that knowledge, wisdom, experience and inspiration can be drawn from all Christian traditions and contexts, based on the Bible's teaching that "everything belongs to us" but that "we belong to Christ" (1 Cor 3:21,23) .
Therefore, Ad Fontes aims to seek community and cooperation with other Christians of different traditions when natural opportunities and forms are given. We also want to offer a spiritual home and community for students and internationals, who find themselvs temporarily in Lund, so that the time spent in our city becomes a period of growth and maturity both in spirit and vocation, as well as in knowledge and experience.
